Greenpoint Just Got a New Grocery Store and It’s a Piece of Cake
Picture this: You’re at the grocery store, ready to tackle your weekly shopping. You have a list, you have a plan, and you’re feeling pretty good about things. But as you start making your way down the aisles, you quickly realize that your carefully crafted list might not be enough. Suddenly, you’re faced with a world of options—some too expensive, some not quite what you need and some just plain out of stock. Welcome to the wild world of grocery shopping!
But, let’s get real for a moment. Is there such a place where you can find big ticket essentials, locally sourced goods and fresh produce in one easy-to-shop grocer? Yep, there is, and it’s called Jubilee Marketplace. This new store in Greenpoint boasts a cute cafe, locally sourced food items, seasonal produce (by the way, ramps season is in full swing at Jubilee), whole animal butchery, plus much, much more.
Head on over to 145 West Street and immediately enter 20 Grams Cafe—which is open from 7am until 9pm daily—and peruse coffee from Caffe Vita and pastries from local businesses. Breakfast is served 7am to 12pm and lunch from 12pm to 4:30pm Monday through Saturday. All meat featured in the cafe menu comes from the store’s whole animal butcher program which includes housemade chorizo, smoked bacon, burgers and breakfast sausage. Pretty cool! The whole animal butcher program comes from Gibson Family Farms, Fossil Farms, Rosenkrans Natural Beef Co., FingerLakes Farms and White Clover Sheep Farm.
Take the stairs—or the escalator or elevator—downstairs to shop. So! As you make your way down, you’ll immediately find fresh flowers, fruits and veggies. From there, you can discover seafood fully stocked by the local biz Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co., a farm stand section working with farms from Union Square Market such as Norwich Meadows Farm, plus local and imported cheeses and salumi from independently owned creameries and meat markets (what’s not to love about that?).
That being said, the flagship store works with vendors that utilize sustainable practices in their business operations. What does that mean exactly? For one, their seafood purveyor, Greenpoint Fish, is certified by Smart Catch and recognized as one of the only sustainable and ethically sourcing wholesalers on the East Coast. Furthermore, Jubilee works with farms that only humanely raised animals and are pasture-fed. Another important partner is Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op, and the shop goes out of their way to work directly with vendors and manufacturers. Jubilee prides itself on their distribution partners to give you highly curated eco-friendly offerings available on the market.
There’s lots to discover at Jubilee Marketplace. From an array of spices and market offerings (think chili oils and sauces across cultures, international snacks like Japanese ice cream, local goodies and pastries like Taste Creme cakes and Brooklyn-made kolaches) to quirky kitchenware and cookbooks, there’s so much to stock up on. You’ll even find a Smallhold minifarm in which blue oyster mushrooms are grown on site.
Find what you need with clever, locally sourced products in a snap. Shoppers can also enjoy a loyalty program, which allows customers to sign up and redeem points for money back on future purchases, this loyalty program also includes exclusive deals and events. The storefront is pristine, well-lit, and easy to navigate for folks of all abilities (the wide aisles are wheelchair-friendly, and the elevator is clean and easy to maneuver). Food shopping made a little greener, and a lot easier.
