What’s the first song on your bar’s playlist?
We’ve been switching playlists quite a bit lately, but for most of last year, “Love Come Down” by Evelyn Champagne King tended to be played just about every day. It’s pretty hard for that song to get hold.
What’s your second passion outside of bartending?
Screenwriting. I’ve been trying to leverage my bar experience into writing projects for a while.
Why did you decide to become a bartender?
Same as most other bartenders in the neighborhood… If your passion is to be a creative and you want to do it on your own terms, the money and scheduling in the bar industry makes it one of the best ways to support yourself in the interim.
What would surprise people about being a bartender?
Consistently going to bed when the sun’s coming up gets old pretty quick. Is that a surprise? Probably not. But it sucks.
Have you ever been starstruck by a customer?
Rose McGowan was in here once. My childhood crush on her went haywire and I could barely speak.
What’s the first bartending job you had?
This one. I started here a while ago and worked my way up from bar back. I’m very fortunate to work in an establishment that puts so much emphasis on loyalty and family.
