Silent Barn Taking Applications For Winter Residency
Alert for artists, sculptors, writers, and other creative types looking for a combination community and workspace: The Silent Barn is accepting applications for residency from November through January. Residents get the run of the ample studio space in the Bushwick, as well as a spot to stay and collaborate in, chipping in $800 for rent or working the venue’s events to pay for their keep. Not such a bad deal when apartments around the area are averaging $2,647 a month for a one-bedroom.
What constitutes the residency is very loosely defined, which is great if you have a big, interactive, weird project that needs more space than your Brooklyn apartment. Per the application:
We encourage you to propose projects to leave your mark on Silent Barn. We love to see our residency proposals include engagement with our general mission, or to improve specific things that need work in our space. Want to organize a group exhibition? Paint a mural? Build an immersive installation in your living room? We’re all ears.
If that sounds of interest, you can apply at the Silent Barn’s website. We look forward to seeing your jungle gym made of baby doll heads.
