School of Rock Coming To Brooklyn
Frankly, it’s surprising that this didn’t happen sooner. We already have a DJ school for babies (which, Jezebel only discovered last week) so it seems appropriate that a School of Rock is coming to our humble borough.
Next month, Gowanus will become home to a School of Rock at 327 Douglass Street. The school will occupy a 4,000 square foot warehouse and hold classes for kids aged 3 to 18 as well as adults. This new outpost will join 100+ School of Rock franchises across the United States.
“[The kids] will form a group, they will rehearse once a week, and at the end of the show season they will perform at a local club,” owner Mike Addesso told the New York Daily News. It’s a great way to meet a lot of different kids and form bands — it’s really cool.”
Students will perform in bands with a theme like “Best of the 90s” or Led Zeppelin and spend time with working musicians. According to the official School of Rock website, students have performed at a number of big name venues like CBGB’s, The Knitting Factory and B.B. King’s Blues Club, which we must admit is pretty cool but remember kids:
