Thousands Join Nationwide No Kings Protest in Park Slope
Scenes from Saturday's anti-Trump, anti-ICE march along Prospect Park West
On Saturday, March 28, the No Kings movement brought millions of people all over America to the streets to protest the war in Iran, genocide in Gaza, the gestapo tactics of ICE and mass deportation, the gutting of democracy and the Constitution, the rolling back of civil rights, immigrant rights, voting rights, gay rights, and trans rights, and, basically, everything about President Donald Trump.
Brooklyn’s contribution to the mass protest happened in Park Slope, where thousands marched along Prospect Park West from Garfield Place to Bartel-Pritchard Square at 15th Street, chanting, singing, shouting, and carrying homemade signs that ranged from the straightforward (“FUCK ICE”) to the more discursive (“The only similarities between Elvis and Trump are 14 year-old girls, drug addiction, and impacted bowels”).

And while the numbers here in Park Slope paled in comparison to the huge No Kings march in Manhattan on Saturday, as the event’s co-organizer Dani Newman told Brooklyn Magazine, “this is a historically activist community and we wanted to give people who couldn’t get to the city, like families with young children and elderly people, a place in their neighborhood to protest.”
Among those who took advantage of the opportunity were eight-year-old Michaela, who came out because, as she put it, “I don’t like Donald Trump” (totally fair!); and TJ Fix of Crown Heights, who said, “It’s insane what’s going on right now. Enough is enough! We’ve got to get Trump out. I’m here because I feel like it’s our responsibility to stand up and let our voices be heard collectively.”

There were those, too, who were feeling the impact of the president’s policies in a more direct and personal way. Here’s what Valerie from Bensonhurst had to say about the day: “I don’t want to say my last name because my son just got deployed to the Middle East, but I’m here to support all the military, and to get rid of Trump because he’s insane. There’s no other way to put it. My son got deployed to a senseless war, and something has to be done. Trump’s only out for the rich, and we’re paying the price.”
Here are some more scenes from the Park Slope No Kings march.
