Man Armed with Fork and Pizza Cutter Attempts to Free Luigi Mangione from Prison
The suspect is a Minnesota man who reportedly claimed to be a federal agent with a court order
There appear to be some pretty drastic measures supporters of Luigi Mangione will take to free the cult figure, who is currently being detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, awaiting trial for the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
On Wednesday night, a Minnesota man named Mark Anderson (presumably fresh off a stop Di Fara’s), reportedly walked into the MDC claiming to be an FBI agent with a court order for the release of Mangione, according to Gothamist, Anderson then presented his regular state-issued Minnesota ID when asked for credentials and informed the prison’s guards that he was, in fact, armed. When guards opened his bag, they removed a large BBQ fork and the kind of round blade you’d typically see within range of a coal fire oven. Anderson, who is obviously not a federal agent with any sort of legitimate order to free an elitely infamous MDC prisoner, was swiftly arrested for his half-cooked and, frankly, hilarious attempt at freeing Mangione, and hit with a federal charge for impersonating a federal agent. He is expected to appear in federal court on Thursday.
Mangione, one-third of the MDC’s latest Big Three configuration (along with detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and recently returned rapper Tekashi69), won’t be getting his court date quite as quickly as his volunteer accomplice. The 27-year-old is awaiting trial at the notorious Brooklyn prison on three federal charges (for first-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and stalking), as well as eleven state charges. A fourth federal charge for terrorism was dropped in September.
