“Guy Who Just Bought a Boat” Just Bought a House in Park Slope
Former Saturday Night Live cast member Alex Moffat joins the pantheon of stars who call Park Slope home
Park Slope, the Brooklyn neighborhood supposedly already home to John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, and Patrick Stewart, just landed a new star resident. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Alex Moffat, who anchored the sketch show with bumbling, mumble-mouthed and crucial impersonations of Joe Biden and Eric Trump, as well as a recurring “Weekend Update” bit as “Guy Who Just Bought a Boat,” just bought a townhouse on Carroll Street.
According to Crain’s, Moffat and his wife closed last week on a four-level, two-family home with a yard between 6th and 7th Avenue, just a few blocks west of Prospect Park. The home was reportedly purchased for $3.8 million from the trust of Barry Simpson, a late middle school drama teacher who had owned the house since the 1960s. The sale of the home was handled privately, so there are few details about the interior or even a listing with photos to comb through for those curious, but tax records show a total of 3,700 square feet and two stories of bay windows to the property’s plan.
Moffat ended a six-year run on Saturday Night Live in 2022, but has returned for one-off spots since, like the “White Potus” sketch last year. His recent credits include appearances on The Bear, Bad Monkey, and a starring role in The Cottage, a Broadway comedy directed by Jason Alexander, all of which serve as needed conditioning for what will no doubt be one of the most challenging roles of his career to date—keeping a straight face while dodging all of the dogs in strollers and children on leashes at the Prospect Park farmers market. Seems like he might just be up for it.
