NYC is (Kinda) Getting Its First Erewhon
A miniature version of the luxury L.A. grocery store will be nestled into Kith's private padel club in the West Village
After years of signaling a return to the East Coast, Erewhon, the absurdly expensive Boston-born, L.A.-raised, luxury grocery store, will finally, sort of, have an NYC banner.
According to some ace scooping from Feed Me, the newsletter by Emily Sundberg, West Villagers will soon be able to sip $120 smoothies from a miniature—meaning, considerably condensed—version of the grocer in sweet, shameless bliss. Except, it’ll cost you and them quite a bit more than that just to get in the door. The NYC debut of Erewhon comes courtesy of Ronnie Feig’s Kith, which is set to open a new private padel club on the ninth floor of 120 Leroy Street. The initial cost of membership alone is a breathtaking $36,000, plus a $7,000 annual fee. It’ll live alongside a number of high-end members-only amenities in what is being dubbed the “Kith Ivy” facility, a preemo padel club and luxury brand launching in partnership with Wilson this week, with a padel court and mini-boutique installation at Grand Central Station. Kith Ivy will also house the Living Room, a new restaurant from The Cafe Mogador team, and the club’s spa is, of course, designed by Giorgio Armani.
Initial plans for the club also included a proposed rooftop club and restaurant, which appears to have been scrapped in response to backlash from the neighborhood. In March, protestors and attorneys crashed a state liquor license board meeting, waving picket signs and threatening litigation against Fieg and fellow investors, which include Michael Cayre’s Midtown Equities (the former operator of Soho House before it was recently sold) and Numrud Nino Muhatasov, who owns Matchpoint NYC, a chain of colossal tennis and fitness clubs with three locations in South Brooklyn.
The Kith Ivy preview at Grand Central runs until September 10th. The opening date for their padel club has yet to be announced, but you can see the floorplan and first images of the space via Feig’s Instagram.
