Brooklyn Dad Wins $50 and a Year’s Worth of Burritos in Pedro Pascal Lookalike Contest
George Gountas entered the Pedro Pascal lookalike contest at the request of his wife and coworkers at 'The Daily Show'
Father’s Day may come but once a year, but the dad who took home top prize at the first annual Pedro Pascal lookalike contest over the weekend will be eating well at least until the next one.
George Gountas, a Brooklyn resident who was pressured into entering the contest by his wife and coworkers at The Daily Show, is the latest local to up their regional celebrity with an uncanny resemblance to a national or global star. Gountas was crowned king of the Pascal dopplegangers on an uncommonly rainy, muggy, and grey Father’s Day. He took home a giant red check for $50 and a year’s worth of free burritos from Son del North, the Mexican restaurant on the Lower East Side that hosted the event in celebration of its one-year anniversary.

From the looks of it, crowds began to gather outside of the shop’s Orchard Street location around noon on Sunday, but quickly swelled to a block-consuming mass. According to People, Gountas competed with 26 other contestants. After the first round, there were just 10 potential Pascals left. The final round of judging was determined purely by crowd response, and it was ample for Gountas. “This is a big shoutout to everyone at The Daily Show who made me come do this. And to my wife and my neighbor Stephanie, who helped me with the clothes,” Gountas glowed in a statement to the publication.
Gountas joins a growing pantheon of people who appear just similar enough to pop culture figures to inspire a short double-take and win a prize for it. Though it should be noted, he is unquestionably the most stirring doppleganger to surface from this new tradition yet.
