Where to Get a Free Thanksgiving Turkey in Brooklyn This Year
Organizations across the borough are giving out meals for the holiday.
Thanksgiving is just about here, and across Brooklyn, organizations are stepping up to provide people with a warm meal to celebrate the holiday.
Before the day, and even on it, groups are giving out turkeys and meals. Below is a list of distribution sites around the borough. We’ll update this post as we hear about more.
Life of Hope Center’s Happy Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway
When: Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, 3 p.m.
Where: 1377 Brooklyn Ave.
Life of Hope, an organization that helps youth and immigrant families in Brooklyn, will start handing out turkeys around 3 p.m. and go until they run out.
Environmental Hood Restoration Turkey Time Giveaway
When: Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, 1 p.m.
Where: 966 Rutland Rd.
Environmental Hood Restoration is hosting their third annual Turkey Time giveaway. They’ll be handing out free turkeys and fresh produce for the community. The event kicks off at 1 p.m. and will last until there’s no food left. Make sure to show up an hour beforehand to get your number.
State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton’s Turkey Giveaway
When: Friday, Nov. 22, 1 p.m.
Where: 1906 Mermaid Ave.
State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton is teaming up with the Coney Island IHOP to give families free turkeys in front of the Southern Brooklyn district office this Friday. The event starts at 1 p.m. More info here.
Sandy Nurse’s Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway
When: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, 10 a.m. (RSVP), giveaway at 11 a.m.
Where: 56 Pennsylvania Ave.
City Council member Sandy Nurse of District 37 will hand out as many turkeys as possible from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday—first come, first served. RSVP here.
Victory National Global Church Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway
When: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, 2 p.m.
Where: 330 MacDougal Street.
Victory National Global Church is once again hosting a turkey giveaway for those in need. You don’t need to be affiliated with the church in any way.
The Real Word Ministries Thanksgiving Giveaway
When: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, 3 p.m.
Where: 620 E 102nd St.
For the eighth consecutive year, Real Word Ministries is trying to give away a whopping 200 turkeys. This year, they’ll hand them out at the new Hermon SDA Community Church building on Saturday starting at 3 p.m. For more information, and to help them reach their 200-turkey goal, click here.
Brooklyn Community Board 14’s Thanksgiving Harvest Fest
When: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Lincoln Road between Nostrand Avenue and New York Avenue
State Senator Zellnor Myrie and Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez are teaming up to host this year’s Thanksgiving Harvest Fest. They’ll of course be handing out free turkey, but the event will also include “family-friendly activities, music, and much more.”
Goke Food Pantry Free Turkey Giveaway
When: Saturday, Nov. 23., 2024, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: 622 Cortelyou Rd.
Since 2013, Goke Food Pantry has been serving canned and fresh produce to the Kensington community, so of course this year they’re also handing out free turkeys. The event will kick off at 9 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. or all turkeys are gone.
Third Annual District 35 Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway & Resource Fair
When: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: 260 Eastern Pkwy.
City Council member Crystal Hudson will host her third annual turkey giveaway for the community, distributing turkeys, fresh produce, and items for Thanksgiving side dishes. Brooklyn Book Bodega will also hand out books for kids.
NYC Sigmas 7th Annual Thanksgiving Giveaway
When: Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, 10 a.m.
Where: 896 Dekalb Ave.
The Rho Epsilon Sigma Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., is asking people to bring a shopping cart as they give away turkeys and groceries to those who need them. They start handing out supplies at 10 a.m. and will continue until everything is gone.
National Action Network Thanksgiving For All
When: Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: 1200 Dean St.
Brooklynites can join the National Action Network and the Family Center at the Bedford Central Presbyterian Church on Thanksgiving day for a special and free dinner on Thanksgiving day.
Flatlands Reformed Church’s Thanksgiving Community Meal
When: Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, various times.
Where: 3931 Kings Hwy.
The Flatlands Reformed Church will host two back-to-back dinners on Thanksgiving Day for those in need. The first dinner will serve from noon until 1:30 p.m., and the second will begin at 2 p.m. RSVP here.
Kings Theatre’s Thanksgiving Day Luncheon
When: Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: 1027 Flatbush Ave.
If you’re a member of the Flatbush community, you can grab a Thanksgiving Day meal and winter accessories like hats and gloves at Kings Theatre. Students from the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Erasmus will serve stuffing, potatoes, turkey, and more while supplies last. To donate winter items, click here.
