Weekend Guide: The NYC Marathon and Day of the Dead events
Plus, Iron Maiden headlines Barclays Center
For some, it’s still spooky season with Día de los Muertos falling on this weekend — for others, Christmas can’t come soon enough. Whatever you’re into, there’s plenty to do this weekend.
Day of the Dead is being celebrated at Green-Wood Cemetery on Friday with family-friendly events all afternoon. Xanadu is holding it down on Friday night with an Afro-Latin Día de los Muertos party, featuring live music and skating.
Saturday brings the first Christmas event of the season. C’mon Everybody hosts Defrosting: A Mariah Carey Tribute Show to get you into a yuletide spirit a bit earlier than usual. Too soon? Also on Saturday, metal legends Iron Maiden come to Barclays Center.
The New York Marathon is on Sunday, and you can cheer on the runners as they pass through Downtown Brooklyn at Mile 8. There will be coffee and cowbells to support the runners while supplies last. The weekend winds down with NEWCOMERS: An Evening of Bell House Debuts. Come see the city’s best new comedians right in Brooklyn.
One more quick thing: One Love Community Fridge opened a community fridge at DeKalb Market Hall this week, just in time for Giving Month in November. OLCF is addressing food insecurity by opening fridges in neighborhoods where access to quality food is most needed, with the latest at DeKalb Market Hall supported by vendors. You can donate to OLCF or take what you need from the fridge as needed.
Have a great weekend.
