There are 5 days left to vote early in the 2024 presidential election. Here’s how to do it in Brooklyn.
Election Day is less than a week off, but you can cast your ballot now.
Election Day is less than a week away, and millions of people will vote for our next president. But if you can’t or don’t want to wait until then, you can join the thousands of New Yorkers who have already cast their ballots. Early voting began in New York this past weekend, and the city saw record numbers of votes, with Brooklyn leading the charge.
Across the five boroughs, 140,145 people voted early on Oct. 26, according to the Board of Elections. Brooklyn had the highest number of voters who turned out that day, with a total of 40,289. On Sunday, another 117,702 people made their decision, and, again, Brooklyn came out on top, with 36,744 voters.
Here’s everything to know about voting early.
What is early voting, and how does it work?
Early voting will be much more familiar to people this time around, as it was a big way people voted in the 2020 election, when over 100 million people cast their ballots by mail or in person before Election Day, according to the New York Times.
Basically, early voting lets people finalize their choice in advance of Election Day, with the process mirroring what voting on that day looks like. Some states offer in-person voting, some offer mail-in voting, and some—like New York—offer both.
Where in Brooklyn can I vote early?
According to the New York State Board of Elections, “Voters may visit any of their assigned Early Voting Centers in their county, except in New York City, where voters are assigned to one early voting site.”
You can click here to find out what your specific voting site is by typing in the address you registered to vote with into the system.
What will I be voting for?
The biggest names on your voting ballot will, of course, be Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, but Brooklynites can also cast their vote for items including candidates running for the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as judicial races, and six ballot measures. You can see your complete ballot here.
