Out of the Closet: At Home with 5 of Brooklyn’s Fashion Elite
Samantha Pleet
Designer, Samantha Pleet
Pratt-trained Pleet is a favorite designer of musicians, artists, and pretty much every Brooklyn creative-type we know. Need proof? Almost everyone in this feature chose a Pleet original as one of their closet stand-outs. Known for gorgeous, twisting silhouettes and playful yet delicate prints, Pleet’s designs are dreamy and ethereal, but also supremely wearable.
1.Best Vintage Find
My best ever vintage find is this jacket I got at Sideshow Vintage in Hudson, New York. I was in town for my friend Landon Metz’s show this spring. I love the playful bold shapes shown here with one of his paintings.
2. Most Coveted
My most eye opening piece is this Romper I ordered from The Loved One, a store owned by my dearest friend Hannah Metz. I placed it on top of my polka dot squishy coffee table.
3. Most Worn Item
The piece I am most likely to wear every day right now is this set by In God We Trust. It makes me feel put together without much effort.
4. Never Going to Part With
The piece that I don’t think anyone can live without is the Tabernacle Dress, one of my favorite pieces from my collection.
5. Most Sentimental
The piece that I can’t seem to get rid of but probably should is this chunky Prada ski sweater my grandmother got me. It’s so beautiful and well-made, but just not my style.
6. Fanciest Item
The nicest piece I own is this Chanel mini dress, a hand-me- down from my grandmother, Judy Pleet. I hung it up against a mural painted by my friend Leon Benn.
