Brownsville Woman Arrested for Killing and Dismembering Mother of Four
The wild-goose chase by Suffolk County police to identify scattered body parts in different Long Island towns has come to a gruesome end, and it involves a Brooklyn mother.
Brownsville resident Leah Cuevas, 42, has been charged with second-degree murder of mother-of-four, Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne, after the woman’s body parts were identified as those found littered in Hempstead and Bayshore this month.
The Long Island communities were unsettled after a head was discovered last week in a Hempstead Village yard, and earlier this month, two severed arms. Browne’s upper right arm, emblazoned with a tattoo of her first name, matched one of the salvaged limbs. A few days later, additional human remains were found in the parking lot near the Fire Island ferry in Bay Shore less than a mile from Cuevas’ sister’s home.
Browne, 27, suddenly went missing on July 5th. NBC New York reports that she may have had an altercation with Cuevas before her disappearance, and her husband Dale says his wife argued with her landlady prior to vanishing and that Cuevas identified herself as the landlord. She was arraigned Thursday without bail.
