The Most Promising Young Filmmakers in Brooklyn
Tim Sutton, Memphis
(screening Sunday, June 22)
Which neighborhood do you live in?
Park Slope. I’ve been in Brooklyn for more than 15 years. With two young kids, we came to Park Slope for the public school and, though the streets around here are paved with Crocs, it’s beautiful and quiet living for the most part.
Do you think living in Brooklyn affects your work?
If anything, being here makes it harder to be a filmmaker because of the high cost of living. Our peers in Austin and Nashville and the like seem to be able to do their creative work with less survival issues. Aesthetically, the films I’ve made so far don’t have anything to do with where I live.
Is there a “Brooklyn film scene”?
There are lots of Brooklyn filmmakers.
What film that’s not your own are you most excited about at the festival?
Boyhood. It seems to be one of those rare films that is as epic as it is intimate.
What’s your favorite movie theater in Brooklyn?
BAM, of course. Best place to see a movie in New York City. Last thing I saw there was Under the Skin, and it freaked me out!
