The Battersby boys doubled down this year with Dover, a seafood-focused eatery twice the size of their wildly successful debut in Carroll Gardens. Traif’s Jason Marcus proved his “pork loving Jew” bit was more than just a gimmick with the tasty Mexican tapas spot, Xixa, and Paul Liebrandt got tongues wagging when he decamped to Brooklyn with The Elm, after building his reputation as an impossibly posh Tribeca toque at Corton. And Luksus, the spare Scandinavian tasting room attached to Greenpoint beer mecca, Torst, actually got us excited to eat dehydrated vinegar-dusted ham chips, woodruff meringue and pea and anise hyssop sorbet. But we were almost thankful that Isa imploded after two of its most talented team members, Jose Ramirez-Ruiz and Pam Yung, went on to found the fantastic vegetable-focused pop-up, Chez Jose — their endlessly inventive, 10-course, 55-dollar, BYOB dinners are easily one of the best deals in town.
