Of course the side salad at McDonald’s only cost a dollar. Who would order it otherwise? But, really, who would even order it at a dollar? Wilted greens, flavorless pink tomatoes, and watery cucumbers are not worth a nickel. Luckily, though, there is an abundance of spots to get good great salads in Brooklyn, and Colonie is hands-down one of my favorites places to do just that. You can stay true to the simple roots of the McD’s side salad and just get the baby lettuces, which come with a simple buttermilk dressing and fresh herbs. Or you can go a little crazy and indulge in the beet salad (crazy!), which is earthy and pungent with the addition of violet mustard. Go crazy!
