A Guide to “Brooklyn’s Lincoln Center”
Irondale
Opened in 2008 on S. Oxford Street (a few blocks deeper into Fort Greene than BAM) in what we’re pretty sure is a former church, this performance space has a huge open floor, as well as ample balcony space. It’s available for rent, meaning what you get is a mixed bag: we saw the Civilians’ musical exploration of the Atlantic Yards controversy In the Footprint there (which was great!), as well as the trippy Alice Grace Anon, which transformed the grand-gymnasium-like space into a happening, complete with free cinnamon toast. The house company, the Irondale Ensemble, regularly puts on work relevant to the surrounding community. 85 S. Oxford Street.
