10 Perfect Things to Do This Fall If You Are Single and Completely Alone
Dinner at Chez José
I don’t know how you feel about dining alone? It makes me anxious, but I’ve really been trying to get over that and become my own best company and quiet the voices in my head enough so that I don’t go insane or turn to my phone for distraction. The only way I know of to dine alone and not go slightly crazy is to be eating such exciting food that you can’t help but be focused on anything but your own pleasure. That’s why Chez José is kind of the perfect place to dine alone. Run by husband and wife, José Ramirez-Ruiz and Pamela Yung, this roving restaurant is only open Tuesdays and Thursdays in the old Lake Trout space, and only offers a 10-course, $55 BYOB tasting menu (reservations required). The food menu changes all the time but has recently featured a sort-of sweet potato leaf hand roll and vibrant tomato soup. Ramirez-Ruiz and Yung do everything by themselves and so, sure, that might make you a bit wistful for the idea of partnership, but get over it. Concentrate on your food. Drink all the wine you brought by yourself. You’ll leave dinner feeling amazing.
