This Is Their Jam: Playlists for 10 Iconic Fictional Characters

Elizabeth & Jessica Wakefield from Francine Pascal’s Sweet Valley High series (they’re twins, they share things, like boyfriends and this playlist): Listen here.
Taylor Swift – “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
The girls are so into T. Swift right now. It’s basically all they listen to. Jessica relates to Tay’s search for self-identity in a series of meaningless relationships while Elizabeth appreciates the responsible nature in which she’s approached being a role model to young girls and, also, dedicates this song to Todd Wilkins after having seen his tweet about listening to “Girlfriend in a Coma” on repeat. Not funny, Todd. It’s over.
Robin Thicke (feat. T.I and Pharrell) – “Blurred Lines”
When this comes on the radio driving to school, it always causes a fight. Elizabeth tries to change the station — the song makes her uncomfortable (partially because she’s ashamed for secretly liking it)—but Jess is all hands in the air, swishing her hair around, and doing all the little “woo” sounds. Jess usually gets her way and they end up listening to it.
Drowners – “Long Hair”
Speaking of the twins’ hair… that’s their thing, you know? Everyone has “a thing” in high school. Here’s a song about theirs. Enid calls it the sister’s theme song, which makes Elizabeth blush.
PAPA – “Let’s Make You Pregnant”
Shhh, DO NOT tell Elizabeth, but this is Jessica’s favorite song. It’s so catchy!
Katy Perry (feat. Snoop Dogg) – “California Gurls”
Ever since the SVH cheerleading squad started learning a new routine to this song, Jess goes around the house blasting it from her headphones so that you can hear it three rooms away. It’s so annoying.
