A Literary Pub Crawl: 10 Books to Read in 10 Brooklyn Bars
Weatherup
“Nora: “How do you feel?”
Nick: “Terrible. I must’ve gone to bed sober.”
So here’s the thing, everyone wishes they sounded as smart and witty as Nick and Nora Charles do when they’re drunk, but, sadly, no one really does. That’s ok, though, because as long as you’re reading about Nick and Nora while you’re drinking, you can absorb some of their charm by, like, osmosis or something. And even if you don’t, you will, at the very least, get to enjoy the writerly craft of Dashiell Hammett, who was a true master and well worth reading, especially if you’ve only seen the movies made from his books. I mean, they’re great and everything, but so are the books. Enjoy the book at low-key classic, slightly hidden bar Weatherup, one of the few places I know that makes a perfect Vieux Carreé.
What to drink: A martini, of course. Gin, with a twist. A Gibson is also acceptable.
