An Artisanal Food Tour of Brooklyn
Cacao Prieto
Founder Daniel Preston’s family owns the century-old Coralina Farms in the Dominican Republic, which provides the organic cacao for all of his Red Hook-made chocolate bars and bon-bons. Even better (as well as totally worth the $10 price tag for a factory tour and tasting) are the variety of house-distilled spirits, derived from the cacao fermentation process itself. Velvety Don Rafael Cacao Rum and peppery Don Estaban Cacao Liqueur are best enjoyed right out of the glass, but the Widow Jane Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey provides the base for some of our favorite local cocktails. Be sure to follow up your visit with bracing “Widow’s Juleps” from Fletcher’s Brooklyn Barbecue in Gowanus.
