A Visitor’s Guide to the Brooklyn Flea
Location
Since its inception, the Flea has been closely associated with Fort Greene (where it operates on Saturdays), while Smorgasburg, its food-focused sister event, has been more closely tied to the Williamsburg waterfront. At least, that’s how the division has arbitrarily played out in my head. But this year’s move of the Williamsburg operation (which takes place on Sundays) to East River State Park at North 7th and Kent has essentially leveled the playing field. Both are excellent, and the vendors more or less the same, so what it really comes down to is neighborhood preference, or which day you feel like dragging yourself out of bed a little early on a weekend. And make no mistake, you should get there early, before the sun and the crowds are at their peak. If there’s one piece of advice you take away from this, let it be that one. Well, and also to wear sunscreen, and be prepared to pay for your purchases in cash. Just looking out for you guys.
