The Perfect Prospect Park Walking Tour

The trail will bring you back under Terrace Bridge, on the other side, and then around a bend. If you follow this path to the end, it would take you to the Concert Grove, with its statues of composers, and the Oriental Pavilion.

But because of construction, there’s a big fence there now. You could slip around the side of it, but as I approached it last weekend a couple came stumbling out, saying, “I think they turned that into a homeless shelter. Don’t go that way!” So, make the turn up the hill and you’ll wind up on top of Terrace Bridge; the Maryland Monument is just in the distance. But don’t go toward it; when you reach the Bridge, make a sharp right onto a wide road and follow it all the way to the end. You’ll be behind, and just south of, the Boathouse. Go to the main road and walk toward it, going down the first trail that opens up on your left.

It’s a long, slow decline through a dense overgrowth. Fun! After you wind your way down this path, you’ll be at the Boathouse. Walk away from it (if you pass the Camperdown Elm again you’re going the wrong way) and bear to the left around that bend.

Cross Binnen Bridge, which goes over Binnen Falls. (At the other end of the bridge there’s a narrow trail that leads along the waterfall. You can take a quick detour here just to check it out—it’s pretty!)

On your right, you’ll see the Music Pagoda, sometimes called the Old Bandshell (or did I just make that up?).
