Beat the Crowds: Where to Watch the Fourth of July Fireworks
Anybody’s Roof
If you know someone who has roof access with even the shittiest view of Manhattan, invite yourself to his or her apartment. The only way to watch fireworks in Brooklyn, really, is from a rooftop. Especially if they live in a neighborhood in which people like to set off their own fireworks. One of my best Fourth of Julys was spent on the roof of one of my old apartments in Bay Ridge; we could just make out the Macy’s show over the Bay Ridge towers, but even more exciting were the ones being set off all around us by our neighbors—even people a few rooftops down. Have some pride, Brooklyn: if Macy’s doesn’t care about you, why should you care about Macy’s?
