The War Memorials of Brooklyn
Saratoga Square Park
A seven-foot bronze memorial for WWI casualties, weighing at least half a ton, was stolen from this Bed-Stuy park in 2000. “A police investigation helped recover numerous pieces of the work at local scrap yards,” the parks department reports. “Several suspects were apprehended, but lack of eyewitnesses caused the charges against the defendants to be dropped.” All that remains is the pedestal, above.
