The War Memorials of Brooklyn
John Paul Jones Park
Locals call this park at the south end of Bay Ridge “Cannonball Park,” in recognition of the giant cannon there. (It’s close to Fort Hamilton Army Base, the borough’s only operating army base.) The cannon is a Civil War memorial, but the park’s officially named after the Revolutionary Naval hero, and in 1916 the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated granite boulder with a bronze tablet. There’s also a WWI memorial here—a gift from England in 1931. [photo]
