Silent Barn: Brooklyn’s Latest Collective
Mila Matveeva — Kitchen Meeting Leader Sous Chef
-How long have you been living in Brooklyn?
currently not a BK resident, but i spent the majority of my adolescence growing up there, something like a decade.
-What brought you here?
as a current nonresident, but frequent frequent visitor it is definitely the endless pool of things to do and so many little enclaves that remain unexplored. i guess i keep coming back because it is constantly surprising.
-What do you find to be unique about the artistic community in Brooklyn?
it HUSTLES. i am hard pressed to think of any other place where people are juggling so many jobs and projects. it can sometimes seem grueling, but it is mostly inspiring because it isn’t competitive but rather i can’t pass up this opportunity!
-What are some of your inspirations—both in your art/career and just in your everyday life?
people who are patient and kind. anyone who sticks to their convictions, even if they turn out wrong: hypocrites, zealots and the obsessed and devoted. artists, but more so people, who do not make compromises.
-Do you see yourself staying in Brooklyn?
no matter where i end up, i always want to come back. i am a brooklyn girl at heart.
-What’s a perfect Brooklyn day for you?
walking around from one place to eat to another.
