At Home with Bikemaster Thomas Callahan
What’s your least favorite thing?
Probably the sound outside from Peter Luger freezer motors. But the light is amazing here. That’s why I moved from downstairs.
What are the three things you’d save first in a fire?
Probably my bike. Probably my banjo. And my wetsuit.
What’s your favorite room in the space? And favorite time of day?
I moved my bed out here because I like being close to the light. My favorite time is waking up and being able to see right out the window. Being in my bed and waking up with the sun. The southern light is great, it just pumps in here. With that heater, it’s totally fine.
If you suddenly received a windfall of cash, what changes would you make to your space?
I’d probably get a new bulb for my projector. Other than that, not a thing.
If you could move your house/block/neighborhood to another city, which one would it be, and why?
Oh Christ. Another city? Man, I don’t want to go anywhere else. Portland, Maine is a pretty cool place. I’d love it if it wasn’t so dark and cold there. I like Portland, Oregon a lot. I like San Francisco a lot. Maybe Oakland. I did an artist residency there and it was pretty awesome. After some deliberation, Oakland. It’s just like Brooklyn, just not as blown up and way sunnier.
