The 100 Greatest Brooklynites: 40 to 31
It’s hard to believe now, but the nebbishy kid from Bensonhurst was pretty much the coolest man alive(click on that link for bonus reference to fellow great Brooklynite, Barbara Stanwyck!) for a six-year period between 1969 (Bob and Ted and Carol and Alice) and 1975 (Nashville). His sublime trilogy of work with Robert Altman—MASH, The Long Goodbye and California Split—is more than enough to get him on this list; but did you know he also starred in a Bergman flick, The Touch. Oh, and he was married to another great Brooklynite, Barbra Streisand, when her star was at its brightest. Elliott Goldstein, we salute you.
