The 100 Greatest Brooklynites of All Time: 80 to 71
Pierrepont Street and Pierrepont Place in Brooklyn Heights, the former site of their mansion, commemorate Henry and his family, important planners and developers in the city’s early days. Sometimes called Brooklyn’s “First Citizen,” Henry was chairman of the commission appointed to plan the street grid for Brooklyn, after the city was incorporated in 1834. He was responsible for laying out Green-Wood Cemetery and other public spaces, and for establishing ferry service, among other achievements. Thanks, Henry.
