- Traffic nightmare.
Yesterday the NYPD announced planned street closures in preparation for this weekend’s VMAs, and predictably, it looks like just about the whole area surrounding the Barclays center will be affected.
As reported by Park Slope Patch, stretches of Pacific Street will be closed between 6th Ave and Carlton (from 7am Saturday through midnight Sunday night) and 4th Ave and Flatbush (from 2pm through midnight on Sunday), Dean Street between Flatbush and Carlton will be closed from 7am Saturday through midnight on Sunday, and 6th Ave between Atlantic and Dean will be closed from noon today through Sunday night.
The B45 bus will also be re-routed, and the B41 and B67 buses will be skipping their usual stops by Barclays Flatbush Ave. The Dean Street playground is going to be closed, as well, and “viewer pens” are likely to be set up on Pacific and Flatbush, the area in front of Target, and Flatbush Ave between 5th and Dean Street. In spite of all this, subway access to the Barclays Center will be continuing as usual, so if you want to plop yourself right in the middle of all the VMA insanity, that option is available to you. Just don’t try to drive there.
