PSA: A World-Class Triple (Triple!) IPA Suddenly Available in New York City for the First Time
While perusing Beer Menus over the past couple weeks, I noticed there’d been a rash of places listing Knee Deep Brewing’s much adored Simtra IPA. I assumed it was one of those situations that occurs from time to time, where a small shipment of a sought-after beer makes its way to New York even though the brewery isn’t normally distributed here. I didn’t think much of it (other than oh shit, I have to go get myself a bottle or seven), but then it just started popping up more and more, alongside a bunch of other beers from Knee Deep… which makes sense now that I’ve come across this Beer Pulse article from a week in July when I was on away vacation and thus paying slightly less attention to such developments. The horror, I know.
So, yeah! Knee Deep is available here now, thanks to a deal with Sarene Craft Beer Distributors. They’re entering the market with a good-sized stable of beers, including Citra Extra Pale Ale, Hoptologist DIPA, Tanilla, Imperial Tanilla and McCarthys, Imperial Red Ale, and, of course, Simtra 3X IPA, an 11.25% monster of a beer that’s consistently cited as one of the best examples of the style, notable for the way it manages to hang onto its west coast IPA characteristics even in the face of such a high level of alcohol, rather than succumbing to it and coming off more like a barleywine than anything else. Consider picking up a 22oz bottle as soon as you can–it’s available all over Brooklyn for around $12. As for the rest of the line… I’ll be back to report on those soon.
