This Weekend: Ride The Wonder Wheel and Cyclone for Free
Summer begins tomorrow. No, really—because if anything equals “Summer in Brooklyn” it’s going to Coney Island, and pretending to be a free-wheeling kid, while taking some rides. And—great news—this can happen in just one more day. Because after a bad weather delay last weekend, Coney Island’s iconic amusement parks open this Saturday, March 26, with the 31st Annual Blessing of the Rides at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park.
This is a relief because, in addition to all the flower buds that have been poking their pretty little heads out of Brooklyn’s trees this week, the re-opening of the amusement park is one more sign that the warm weather season is in our kind of immediate future.
Even better? Brokelyn reports that the first 96 Wonder Wheel riders get to whirl around for free; the ride opens at 11:30am so get there semi-early for this deal. That offer extends to the Cyclone over at Luna Park, starting at 10am; the first 100 riders will shoot up and down its rails at a rapid velocity for no money.
It’s supposed to be 57 degrees and totally sunny on Saturday. So, not quite actual summer temperatures; but Coney Island, free rides, and even a free egg cream (also on offer!) might make you forget, for a moment, that the real deal is still a few months away.
