Where Are They Now: Coolio Turns Chili Chef in Downtown Brooklyn
What happens when celebrities fall into obscurity? Apparently reinvent themselves as a “ghetto gourmet” cook, host a cooking video web series, and make chili–at least that’s what Grammy Award-winning and Gangsta’s Paradise rapper Coolio did.
The rapper turned cookbook author will be a guest pitmaster at barbecue spot Hill Country, where he will be serving his “Damn Hot Veggie Chili” to a Downtown Brooklyn crowd and sitting down with food writer Stephanie Smith for The Brisket Sessions Q&A to talk about his “transition from the music industry to the food industry,” and his book, Cookin’ with Coolio, where the he proclaims to be “the ghetto Martha Stewart, the black Rachel Ray.”
Tickets to the event are $10, with a portion of proceeds going to Jarez Music Foundation to help supply musical equipment to inner-city kids.
Event is Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Find tickets at Ticketfly.
