Watch DJDS’ Ghostly Video For “I Don’t Love You”
DJDS released the video for “I Don’t Love You,” a slow-building, potent track off their latest album, Stand Up And Speak, out Friday. Say what you want about its repetitive lyrics, but this is precisely my favorite kind of house music — the kind that is melancholy and yet triumphant. Shot in just one day (entirely with iPhones), they collaborated with close friend Daniel Pappas to bring their vision of “Hollywood Purgatory” to life. “We are all very interested in the contrast between the different parts of Los Angeles, and wanted to use this video to dig deeper into the misery of the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” the duo told to Gorilla vs. Bear. Dasha Nekrasov plays the “ghost of an aspiring actress” wandering through LA; Nekrasov is in between life and death, on a quest for peace. We watch her float through the day as it turns to night, carried away by sparkly-sounding snare and soulful vocals. Acceptance is a large theme here and the visuals parallel the lyrics flawlessly, whether it’s about finding clarity in your broken heart or coming to terms with the end of something. Watch below.
Stand Up And Speak is out now on Loma Vista. DJDS also runs their own LA-based label/collective though called Body High.
