Who Came Before Gaspar Noé? Ten Auteur-Porn Milestones of the 21st Century
Stranger By the Lake (2013)
Probably the most successful film on this list—and by a not-insignificant margin—the plein-air noir Stranger takes place at a tucked-away lake where men come to doff their clothes and then disappear together into the surrounding woods. Soon, however, murder intrudes on the idyllic pickup spot. French director Alain Guiradie’s formal marvel, which for its duration doesn’t stray from the immediate vicinity of the titular body of water, features real cum shots and pointedly non-prosthetic boners. Of course, a Cannes jury showered the Un Certain Regard selection with awards: Guiradie won best director, and the film also walked away with the Queer Palm.
