Watch the Teaser Trailer for the New “Kids” Documentary
There’s been much ado about the 20th anniversary of Larry Clark’s Kids, the film that launched a thousand stricter curfews with its raw depiction of New York City teenagers making terrible decisions. There have been countless anniversary screenings, as well as new oral histories by cast and crew members. To cap it all off, the teaser trailer for a feature-length documentary about the movie’s making, in the works for nearly 10 years, has (finally) just been released. To be called The Kids, the documentary will offer an “inside look at the kids who influenced Kids,” says director Hamilton Harris in a new teaser video. Harris himself was one such kid–in the film, he was cast as a skater slacker who gives blunt-rolling lessons in Washington Square Park. It will answer concerned parents’ burning questions about the film: “Why were we smoking weed in the park? Why were we drinking malt liquor? What were we running from? Why were we skateboarding in the New York City streets? Why were we putting ourselves at risk?” Harris says.
The film’s producers are aiming to raise $81,000 via their Kickstarter page, where the teaser trailer gives a rundown of what to expect in the film. “It will weave together never-before-seen archival material from the ‘80s and ‘90s with intimate, present-day interviews featuring the core cast of characters from Kids,” Harris says. Skateboarding photographer Tobin Yelland will lend his talents to the film as Director of Photography, and now grownup Kids cast members, like Chloë Sevigny, Rosario Dawson, Leo Fitzpatrick, Jonny Abrahams, as well as skaters like Jason Lee and Ryan Hickey, will be interviewed for the film.
