A Giant Sinkhole Just Ripped Open an Intersection in Sunset Park
Residents of Sunset Park are waking up to some disconcerting news this morning: A massive sinkhole at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 64th Street appeared out of nowhere and gobbled up a large portion of the street.
Images from the scene depict a hole that’s easily big enough to have devoured a car or perhaps even two. Several images on Twitter depict at least one disconnected pipe. The gaping hole basically spans the entire intersection.
ABC 7 reports that officials from National Grid have responded to the scene because gas lines have been affected. No injuries have been reported so far.
