A Mural in Bushwick Shows Ninja Turtles As Their Renaissance Painter Namesakes
Our favorite crime-fighting reptiles, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have recently been immortalized in Bushwick by way of a new mural. Except the eye-popping wall-painting on the side of some train tracks doesn’t show Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael as weapon-wielding turtles, but rather as the Renaissance artists after whom they’re named.
The mural was spotted by Brooklyn resident Peter Knox last week, and it looks like this:

It’s the work of Owen Dipple, a street-artist from New Zealand who’s got a penchant for rendering New York art and hip-hop luminaries, like Notorious BIG and Basquiat. He also painted a massive mural for the Bushwick Collective last month.
Dipple had been at work on the mural earlier this month, and first dropped an image of it about two weeks ago:
