Old Galapagos Art Space To Host Relocated Galleries
Though the folks behind Dumbo’s Galapagos Art Space have decamped for cheaper rents in Detroit, the building will once again be home to local artists. Real estate company Two Trees Management, which owns several properties in the neighborhood, is relocating most of the galleries of 111 Front Street to street-level spaces in Dumbo, including the old Galapagos Art Space building.
Hyperallergic reports that the galleries will be moving in late April and early May. They include Stephen Romano Gallery, Kunsthalle Projects, and Masters Projects. And the gallerists seem pretty enthusiastic about the change.
“The spaces are being built out as we speak, and they will be really terrific. We are really looking forward to this move,” Matthew Deleget, co-founder of Minus Space, told Hyperallergic. “We are finalizing all the plans, relocation details, and our upcoming exhibition schedule as we speak.”
Plus, it’s a good sign that the arts are there to stay in Dumbo, even though the annual arts festival is no more.
