Best Thing to Do in Brooklyn for Under $20: The McCarren Rink
It’s December 5th, the skies are suitably gray for this time of year, the air smells of pine and feels as heavy as a blanket. You guys, it’s winter. It’s here. And while we know that this is the time of year when you’ll be highly encouraged to just spend spend spend all your money on, we don’t know, gifts for the people you love or something, we think that you could be doing things that are just as much in the spirit of the impending holidays, but that have the added benefit of not putting you heavily into debt. Things like going ice skating at the McCarren Rink.
Now in its second year of operation, the McCarren Rink is both a fun and budget-friendly way to spend your day or night. It’s only $11 for adults (plus $6 for skate rentals), which is a whole lot cheaper than… just about anything else in this borough, right? Certainly cheaper than going to see The Hunger Games and, if you’re a novice skater, you’ll kind of feel like you’re participating in your very own version of the Hunger Games Arena when you take the ice! Well, no! We kid. Honestly, even if you haven’t been ice skating since you were a child, it’s remarkably intuitive—far easier than roller blading, for example (plus, no hills!). And, there’s a concession stand. Not a bad way to spend this coming, snowy Sunday (or any day really), right? Right.
Hours for the rink:
Monday – Friday | 12P – 10P
Saturday | 10A – 11P
Sunday | 10A – 8P
Location:
The entrance to McCarren Rink is located at 768 Lorimer Street, Williamsburg
