Writer’s Group Robbed In Flatbush Cafe
If you’re someone who happens to work a lot on their laptop in cafes and bars—and given how expensive real estate is and how loud roommates can be, many of us in Brooklyn are—then this scenario is straight out of an anxiety dream: Yesterday, an armed robber held up a writer’s group working in a Flatbush cafe, stealing three laptops and an iPad before fleeing on foot.
The group was wrapping up at Lark Cafe on Church Avenue at around 10 p.m. when the robber entered the cafe, held up a gun, and instructed everyone to put their computers in his bag, DNA Info reports. Though there were nine witnesses at the scene, the robber’s face was covered, preventing them from identifying the culprit. No one was hurt, thank goodness, but several writers were out their pricey computers and presumably their work as well. The incident comes just after a community meeting to address an uptick in crime in the neighborhood, particularly as we enter in the holiday season when businesses tend to have more cash on hand. In the meantime, maybe work from home for a bit?
