$36K Stolen From BAM With Forged Checks

In truly despicable news, it appears that the Brooklyn Academy of Music has been robbed of a little more than $36,000 this summer by an unknown perpetrator.
Between July 30 and August 5—one week!—$36,656.16 was stolen from the performing arts center’s account at Bank of America, according to DNAinfo. BAM officials filed a police report on August 11 after Bank of America notified them of the fraudulent withdrawals.
As the investigation is still ongoing, neither BAM nor the NYPD offered comment, but here’s hoping they track down the A-hole who did this soon. Meanwhile, BAM is preparing to host a 24-hour movie marathon and fundraiser on September 5 to benefit their arts education program and they’ve only raised $21,000 toward their $100,000 goal. And, check fraud case or not, there’s never been a better time to donate to BAM.
