Do-Or-Dine Chef Uses Gowanus Canal Water For Ice Bucket Challenge
Whether you believe the recent string of Ice Bucket Challenges are a misguided case of so-called “slacktivism” or part of a genuine, positive movement, there is obviously plenty of room for it to go terribly wrong. Such is the case with the recent news that Do-Or-Dine chef Justin Warner recently decided to participate using what is arguably the nastiest water in our borough.
Via Gothamist: Warner, the 2012 winner of Food Network Star, posted his own video simply entitled “als,” yesterday, following a challenge from a handful of friends and in honor of a childhood friend whose father suffers from ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease. In the video, Warner dips a bucket into the Superfund site known as the Gowanus Canal, collects some “water,” adds in dry ice, and one more super special (and super dead) ingredient. Watch the whole mess below:
And in the end, Warner passes the challenge onto three very famous friends: Alton Brown, Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis. Good—down with ALS!—now, take yourself straight to the CDC, good sir.
