A Bar Crawl With The Budos Band
The Budos Band has been peddling their unique brew of world-music inspired soul around the world for almost 10 years. Started on Staten Island in 2005, and quickly signing with Brooklyn’s Daptone Records, they joined the ranks of other throwback luminaries Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and Charles Bradley. Their music creates the best kind of atmosphere —a soaring, eclectic funk that’s equally at home at a backyard barbecue or the Prospect Park Bandshell. When these dudes aren’t on tour, they like to kick it in their adopted home, Brooklyn. In advance of their newest album, Burnt Offering, out October 21 on Daptone Records, they shared a list of their favorite spots to throw one back. Take a look, after the jump:
Torst – “Amazing Danish beer bar with one of a kind brews you won’t find anywhere else. Plus the light wood handcrafted interior makes for a delightful drinking environment.”
Barcade – “Video games and craft brews. Two of our favorite things.”
Die Koelner Bierhalle (KBH) – “German beer halls are great. We love ’em, and this spot is a classic.”
Saint Vitus – “Metal, metal, more metal. We’ve seen some of the best shows in New York City here.”
Anchored Inn – “Great spot in a great locale. If you find yourself in the East Williamsburg industrial zone and need a brew to process all the wicked graffiti, this is your spot.”
Skinny Dennis – “Straight-up country bar. Love it.”
The Gate – “This is the kind of place you go when you just need to tie one on.”
Spuyten Duvyil – “Another special spot where you will find beers that you don’t see anywhere else. Plus they have killer cheese plate to offer a little sustenance.”
Harefield Road – “Some of the friendliest bartenders you’ll meet, plus our boy Mikey Post — the Custodian of Soul — DJs there Thursday nights, so if we need somewhere to go after practice, it’s always a good spot.”
The Gutter – “When you want that classic, decrepit bowling alley vibe, this is your spot. Plus they have that old-school hockey game that’s super fun.”
