Now Open: Casual Southern Eatery Wilma Jean From Nightingale 9 Owners
The past few months have been very eventful for chef Rob Newton. Recently, he was handed the reins at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where he’s revamping the Garden’s cafe and catering program. And now, Newton and business partner Kerry Diamond are making another big move: The duo are moving Nightingale 9 into the space formerly occupied by Seersucker and opening a new casual Southern restaurant in its place.
The new eatery will be named Wilma Jean after Newton’s mother and boast a decidedly down home menu, featuring such potential hits as fried chicken on a stick, a $5 fried bologna sandwich, braised collards seasoned with country ham and cornmeal-crusted oysters, Grub Street reports.
Looks like we may have to update our Southerner’s Guide to Brooklyn in the very near future.
Wilma Jean is located at 345 Smith Street at Carroll Street. Regular hours: Tues-Sun, 11am – 10pm. Today, Norma Jean will be open from 6pm – 10pm.
