8 Wonderful Short Stories Set In New York City
“The Climber Room” by Sam Lipsyte
Though I’ve only had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Lipsyte read this story from his 2013 collection The Fun Parts aloud, I assume it’s just as laugh-out-loud funny in print. The story is a familiar one—thirty-something single Manhattanite wants a baby but doesn’t know how to get one—but his lighthearted tone paints a loving portrait of a deeply world-weary woman.
