On the heels of recent neighborhood shootings near Maria Hernandez Park and at Knickerbocker at Putnam, DNAinfo reports that a Bushwick bodega owner was shot and killed yesterday in his business at 427 Central Ave.
At 6:50am Thursday, shortly after opening his deli for the day, 52-year-old Swadh Maged was shot twice by a gunman who then fled the scene in a waiting van and doesn’t appear to have stolen anything. Reportedly, Maged was a Yemeni immigrant “who worked long hours to support his 13 children.” There’s no clear motive for the shooting as of yet, and no arrests have been made.
“Everybody loved him in the neighborhood. Everybody called him ‘pops’ out of respect,” a friend told the site. “It’s shocking.”
