Brooklyn’s Best Easter Candy… for Adults
Liddabit’s Chocolate Easter Eggs: While they’ve admittedly suckered us in time and again (oh so bright and shiny!) we’re always disappointed by those bite sized, foil-covered chocolate eggs. Because 1) they’re a serious pain in the butt to unwrap, and 2) the krackle-textured candies barely register any more flavor than the flecks of aluminum that inevitably cling to their curved surfaces. So abandon Brach’s for Liddabit, who pebble their dark chocolate confections with identifiable ingredients, like honeycomb crumbs, pretzel bits and toasted cereal pieces.
Tumbador’s Easter Bon Bons: Tumbador’s flattened, oblong truffles make a good physical stand-in for those individually wrapped candy eggs. But instead of being filled with wan chocolate fluff, corn syrupy marshmallow or gritty peanut butter, the hand-dipped shells contain dollops of banana nutmeg cream, an intriguing graham cracker-flavored spread, and crème fraiche folded with salted caramel.

JoMart’s Chocolate Basket: As much as we loved our plastic grass-tufted Barbie baskets growing up, we certainly wouldn’t have complained if they’d been crafted entirely out of chocolate. Well, it’s all about wish fulfillment at Midwood stalwart JoMart, which sells wholly edible vessels filled with 1-4 pounds of assorted chocolate — go for the Brooklyn chunkies, sour cherry fudge truffles, and cocoa-enrobed potato chips!

Deliso’s Chocolate Chicks: We’ve declared loudly and often that this tiny, Bay Ridge chocolate shop makes the best truffles ever. But we’re willing to resist the siren call of miniscule espresso cups and pecan-studded bourbon balls until just after Easter, in favor of slightly kitschier items like the 100% Belgian chocolate chicks, merrily bursting forth from between the cracked halves of a white chocolate shell.

Nunu’s Easter Hard Candies: Easter is no excuse to O.D. on chocolate — especially since sugar can be transformed into all sorts of fantastically alluring treats. Take the rosewater and lemon-flavored hard candies at Nunu’s, adorably shaped into frisky bunnies, cheerful chicks, and roly-poly little eggs. Extra bonus for the discriminating adult; they’re both vegan and gluten-free!

Jacques Torres’ Chocolate-Covered Peeps: They don’t call him Mr. Chocolate for nothing. Jacques Torres will gladly shroud almost any immobile object in the stuff, including, happily, the notorious marshmallow Peep. Because somehow, the saccharine Easter mainstay doesn’t seem quite as juvenile when concealed in a blanket of melted, tempered Belgian cocoa.
